How To Apply
PhD Positions
The PhD positions on the project are available as fully-funded studentships for at least 3 years. This means that you will receive a tax-free stipend and that your tuition fees will be completely covered by the project, including for international students.
Applications can be submitted at any time via Lancaster University’s online application system. We will review applications, arrange interviews and reach decisions on a rolling basis until the available positions are filled, with deadline on 31 July for the next batch. The positions are available for start in October 2022, but it will also be possible to defer the start to January 2023 or April 2023. Get in touch early so we can discuss your interest and tell you more about us, our research and PhD life in Lancaster.
For online application, follow the University’s guidance regarding the required documentation. Apply for “2022 Entry” even if you are interested in a later start, to ensure that we receive your application without delay. Select “PhD Computer Science - Full Time” and name Hans Gellersen as proposed supervisor. Provide the required transcripts but don’t worry if you are not currently meeting the language requirement as it can be sorted later. As part of your CV, we welcome you to include links to examples of prior research or project work.
PhD applicants at Lancaster are also required to provide a personal statement and a research proposal. We advise you keep the personal statement short, to describe your general motivation for a PhD with us at Lancaster. For the research proposal, consider that the PhD will be for specific topics within the larger project. We will be happy to provide further guidance on topics we have in mind, but equally welcome you to use the proposal to describe your own ideas in relation to the project.
At any point, don’t hesitate to get in touch for informal discussion with Hans or others on the team. After you have submitted your application, drop us a brief note with the application number so we can ensure that is reviewed without delay.
Postdoc Positions
We have a position formally advertised on the University’s HR portal, with application deadline on 5 August: you can find a full job description and person spec on the application portal. Don’t hesitate to get in touch ahead of time, to discuss your interest with Hans and others on the team. The post can be filled from September but our priority is to find great people to work with and we will be flexible for starting dates later in the year, or early 2023. The post will initially be for two years with possible extension. We are also open to discuss any interest in joining us for a shorter period, for example a postdoctoral year abroad.
